A decision guide to surgical restoration, non-surgical hair systems and wigs, with practical differences in suitability and upkeep.

Hair transplant, a hair patch or hair system, and a wig can all change the appearance of hair loss, but they do so in fundamentally different ways. The appropriate choice depends on the diagnosis, donor supply, area of loss, desired look, maintenance expectations and whether a surgical procedure is suitable.
A hair transplant moves suitable follicles from a donor area to selected areas of loss. It requires adequate donor hair and careful long-term planning. It cannot provide unlimited density, and it may not be appropriate when loss is unstable, the donor area is weak or the target area is too extensive for available supply.
A hair patch or bonded hair system provides non-surgical coverage over a selected area. It does not use donor follicles and can offer immediate cosmetic coverage, including for people who are not transplant candidates. It requires fitting, attachment care, cleaning and periodic maintenance, and the experience depends on the system and daily routine.
A wig generally covers a broader portion of the scalp and may be chosen for extensive or diffuse loss, temporary shedding, medical hair loss or personal preference. Construction, base, hair material, ventilation, fit and maintenance affect comfort and appearance. A wig is not a medical treatment for the cause of hair loss.
The consultation should separate two questions: whether the underlying hair or scalp condition needs medical evaluation, and which coverage or restoration option suits the person's goals. A patient may prefer a non-surgical option even when surgery is technically possible, while another may need a hair system because donor limitations make surgery unrealistic.
Before deciding, compare reversibility, maintenance, cost over time, recovery, donor requirements, styling flexibility and realistic appearance. Radiance Clinics assesses hair loss and transplant suitability and can discuss non-surgical hair-replacement pathways without presenting one option as best for everyone.
